I DON'T THINK ANYONE WAS TRYING TO BRING DOWN THE LOCAL ACTS, LEAST OF ALL ME. I THINK WE JUST WISHED THAT SOME OF THEM WOULD SUPPORT LOCAL BY DOING LOCAL PIECES AS OPPOSED TO FOREIGN SONGS & MUSIC ETC.

It's so cool to have a former queen commenting on this. Even though there are obvious cons, would you care to share more of your opinions on carnival queen shows today vs the 80s: ie resources that were available, the contestants' potential, etc.

And I saw the pics of the costumes the girls wore today: now you know I'm in utter disgust. We already accepted the fact that we have to import costumes for carnival, however I thought the 1 thing that shall remain local are the elaborate costumes for queen show, & king/queen of the bands. Little skimpy costumes on display......are you serious???? Imagine I saw pix of the SJC Carnival pagent & the girls had more elaborate costumes than this. I'd like to know what mas band leaders think of this. Wam to the designers that usually do them?? This has got to be one of the worse carnival queen shows ever!!!

IT'S GREAT TO HAVE THE PERSPECTIVE OF A FORMER QUEEN. IT'S JUST UNFORTUNATE THAT WE ALL HAD TO AGREE ON HOW DISAPPOINTED WE WERE IN THE SHOW.

As a former carnival queen (1984) I so agree with everything said here..This was the most mediocre queen show ever held and I quote you Professor that there was "no elegance or class" in the decor, the questions or the talents..None of those chaperons or queen show organizers seem to know wat talent means..you cannot give a contestant some washerwoman skit and call dat talent..gone are those days..the choice of questions were horrific..nothing uplifting or of substance and the poor girls fumbled which is a traditional thing at queen show..My gosh.Gregory Lorde's independence shows are kudos compared to this..Instead of training the girls how to eat with a knife & fork (etiquette they call it) why don't they train them in speech eloquence..As for the music, St Lucia produces so much talent yet the JA,TnT & American music is wat rules us at every show..We have the likes of Shane Ross, Boo Hinkson,Zionomi,Ricky T,Alpha,Tennyson Joseph and Christopher Hunte's music Talent show.."Tempest" has a host of R&B songs..AJ's music cud have been used for the swimsuit section..As for the judging when will 5-10mins ever produce results..waiting for results can produce another show by itself..imagine just to tally numbers..unless the whole carnival queen show committee is revamped our standard will only get worse..They need more training than the poor contestants who so bravely give their utmost with dresses and costumes they sometimes see for the first time 1 or 2 days before the show.. As for the MC's ..no regard for the high caliber show that Queen show is supposed to be..

Although the music this year seems lacking, the musicians are doing a good job however.Maybe it's the "economy" everyone one seems to use dat excuse...lol..it takes money to produce and more money for their presentations and most of them don't get the financial sponsorship required..I wish them all better luck next year..

Nicky I so agree with you on the fact USA has 50 girls and a 3hr show.We do not produce 10 but start at 8pm and finish at 2am..the majority of entertainment should be at intermission and the excessive waiting on judges for the results..

Professor U need to send your article to the local newspapers in St.Lucia so it cud be seen by CDF..They have to see the comments from our counterparts overseas because carnival "part of our culture" is now on a decline and the standard is somewhat shameful..We need to respect all comments and take criticism in order to bring back our carnival culture to wat it used to be ...

from all my time watching lucian canival queen shows, it has always been sum long tra-lala. is it necessary to have all those performances in between? or @ least save half of those for the intermission. the other half we dont need. if america can hold 1 pagent w/ more than 50 women in less than 3 hours, we can surely surpass this nonsense; 7 girls, 5 hours???? :|

I WANNA ECHO YOUR SENTIMENTS NICKY & SAY KUDOS TO THE GIRLS CAUSE IT TRULY IS A FEAT OF COURAGE TO STEP OUT THERE LIKE THAT & CONGRATS TO THE WINNER. IT'S EASY FOR US TO SIT BACK & PICK APART THE SHOW BUT THEY'RE THE ONES IN THE HOT SEAT BEING SUBJECTED TO WEARING THOSE ATROCITIES, RE-ENACTING SKITS & EVERYTHING ELSE THAT THEIR SPONSORS & CHAPERONS ADVISE THEM TO.
NO COMMENTS ON SOME OF THE BEHAVIOR IN THE PA TV CHAT ROOM EITHER, I KNOW SOME PERSONS ARE JUST TRYING TO HAVE FUN & IT'S PROBABLY NOT MEANT TO BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY BUT I JUST FOUND THAT THE LANGUAGE WAS JUST A LIL TOO UNNECESSARILY COLORFUL @ TIMES. HOW RECEPTIVE ARE THESE ORGANIZERS & OFFICIALS TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC SUGGESTIONS WHEN YOU HAVE INSTANCES LIKE THIS YEARS BEST DRESS WINNER CLEARLY WINNING CAUSE HER DRESS WAS DESIGNED BY SHAZI & EVOKED SOME KINDA CULTURAL INSPIRATION. Very good piece, the only thing I can add was that the costumes were mediocre due to the fact that they were not being judged and I guess the bands didn't want to spend alot on money for production of a costume that would not be judged.

All in all the show was wack, I swear the bickering in the chat-room was more entertaining than the show itself and that says alot.

bravo professor!!!!!!!!! this should be copied to the star's newspaper in the letters section....and also to cdf and watever carnival comittee there is. i was so worried about 'reaching' deh late when i logged on @ 7. but i was informed dat it just started. den dey had this mj tribute...um no comment.

and so my i.e. kept crashing whenever i logged on to p.a tv so i only saw bits and peices.

the chatroom was left to be desired....or is it always like that?? nyree, i think the chatters would have a better time if p.a. broadcasted the barbeque u went to. den 1 of the girls w/ her skit screaming like she having sum broke down orgasm....good lord. and they were nun special about the pan one of the girls played. but the dance that the girl w/ the gap in the teeth did was nice to me. nevertheless, kudos to the girls giving their all in the show...not every1 have the courage to showcase themselves like they did.

but 1 thing that i wasnt impressed w/ the most was the reggae. (was that really cecile?) like seriously, in carnival??? not even bachannal jca u hearing dat!

i myself not feeling the carnival spirit this year. how i no, for 1 im not envious of the masqueraders, and 2; ask me the songs of the season. i always have a personal belief that every even year is better than the odd yr. in 06 i experienced carnival in slu for the first time which really pumped me up for 07 but that yr ended being s***z for personal reasons...08 was the revamped, elevation, new found confidence of lucian mas and 09 is well....maybe the prettiest and most outrageous costumes/bands may be displayed but the vibez eh reaching me at all. hopefully C2KX will be a diff story and would prove my theory ryt.

I REALLY DO HOPE THAT SOMETHING BE DONE TO REMEDY THIS SHOW AS WELL CAUSE IT SEEMS TO BE GOING DOWNHILL YR AFTER YR. CAN'T REMEMBER THE LAST QUEEN SHOW THAT WAS WORTH 2 THUMBS UP.
I AGREE WITH YOU ALSO THAT THE SEASON SEEMS RATHER DULL THIS YR. CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT I DIDN'T EVEN CARE TO TUNE INTO THE GROOVY OR POWER SOCA MONARCH COMPETITIONS. THE MUSIC THIS YR SEEMS LACKING. ALMOST SEEMS LIKE WE PEAKED IN 2007 & HAVE BEEN ON A DECLINE SINCE. SO MANY OF OUR TOP PERFORMERS HAVE YET TO RELEASE MORE THAN 1 OR 2 TRACKS FOR THE SEASON & CARNIVAL IS ALREADY HERE. KINDA LIKE THEY'RE NOT EVEN ENTHUSED. VINCY SOCA IS RUNNING CIRCLES ROUND US THIS YR, WE'RE SO FAR BEHIND IN THE SUMMER CARNIVAL SOCA RELEASES IT'S NOT EVEN FUNNY.
ON A SIDE NOTE I THINK WITH THE GROOVY & POWER SOCA MONARCHS THEY SHOULD CONSIDER MAKING THEM 1 SHOW CAUSE AS IS BOTH SHOWS HAVE 20 COMPETITORS HALF OF WHICH NOBODY CARES TO SEE. SERIOUSLY LET'S BE HONEST HERE. SO I SAY YOU GET THE TOP 10 GROOVY SOCA & TOP 10 POWER SOCA PERFORMERS & PUT THEM ON 1 SHOW. YOU'RE GUARANTEED TO HAVE A SHOW PATRONS WILL ENJOY FROM START TO FINISH.
