A historic global experiment to create a user-generated film shot in a single day by you. On July 24, TODAY, you have 24 hours to capture a glimpse of your life on camera. The most compelling distinctive footage will be edited into an experimental documentary film, produced by Ridley Scott and directed by Kevin MacDonald

So many interesting friends come to mind ... plus today is the TRIBE launch.

Richard Pasley - UWI Lecturer of Fashion, Culture & Development in the Caribbean

When I think of my male friends, only 3 come to mind for style. I've often mentioned their names here when referring to male style.

One of which is my Jamaican friend, Richie Rich. Not sure, if I should use my nickname for him since this summer at The University of The West Indies, Richard Pasley will lecture a course (AR29E) on Fashion, Culture & Development in the Caribbean (Institute of Cultural Studies). I would not want you to walk into his class all too familiar!

My favorite Caribbean website, TORONTO-LIME.com is currently under maintenance ... debugging and final testing of the neswest version of TORONTO-LIME.com will be made live on Wednesday April 14, 2010

"Sometimes we need to take a couple steps back, before we can make that big leap forward"

On Wednesday, the new version of the website will be launched to provide us with a brand new experience. Some of the main changes will now allow visitors to browse and save events to a calendar, create and save multiple tracks to a music playlist and much more.  In the meantime, view current news items and the 360 carnival video blog.

New videos from BACCHANAL JAMAICA carnival will be available soon. For photos from Bacchanal Jamaica 2010 you can get a sneak preview on the Toronto-Lime.com FACEBOOK page. The new photo gallery will be implemented in the new website on Wednesday.

Spent the last couple of hours watching this PBS documentary, The Buddha.  Filmmaker David Grubin presents the story of the Buddha's life and teachings.  I felt peace.

Facebook Friend Request Etiquette

I get Facebook friend requests on my Facebook profile from absolute strangers. I think, "Who are you people?" and I sometimes respond with this message which has changed over time, "How do we know each other?" "How do I know you?" and now I bluntly ask, "How do you know me?" Many don't bother to respond and sometimes the ridiculous responses are enough to qualify them, and for me to freely ignore their friend request.

It irks me when I get a random friend request. I assume you just want to "mind my business" or  "increase your numbers popularity" or "just want to pretend to be friends."

You may not think you’re a total stranger if you follow The Sweet 7, Twitter or if we have mutual friends in common, but I have no idea who you are. If we’ve never spoken or if there is no evidence that I know you, you’re a stranger, plain and simple.

It may surprise you to know, I may want to accept your friend request and become friends. In fact, I have a few wonderful random friends from my Hi5 days. But when you request my friendship without saying how you know me, anything about a mutual contact, why you think we should connect, etc., your friendship does not look sincere.

Many of the rules for good Facebook etiquette are the same rules that apply to any online communications. Common courtesy, decency, good manners, and the golden rule apply on Facebook as well. Never, ever send a random friend request without taking a few minutes to write a little message that attaches with a friend request. If you want to be my Facebook friend (or ANYONE’s Facebook friend, this is etiquette that should be universal) spend 60 seconds saying why. Warning, think about your approach, 'cause this is your 60 second introduction.  It can either get you in or leave you out!

Then there are people, I do know but do not care to include them in my circle of friends. A few continuously send friend requests, with no shame and such desperation. "We were not friends in school, I have no desire to be your friend now!" I have one friend who just can't seem to forget old classmates who said "you'd be the first to get pregnant!" who constantly harass and bombard her with friend requests now. Please, don't ask someone to be your friend more than once!

I've also deleted people for various reasons who then find the nerve to message, asking why did I delete them. Facebook brings me to a place where I prefer to keep my group of friends to a very limited few. There is the need to keep work and social lives separate, among plenty of other reasons.

... And even though, I'm on Facebook, maybe "I JUST WANT MY PRIVACY!"

Trapster

So quite a few men are S7 fans too. For a few days now, I've been wondering how to get MAJOR points with them! Thought of a fashion post but really men's fashion is not my thing! So when this one dropped in my lap, I was like YES, FINALLY! By the way ladies, this will benefit you too.

I just watched a LIVE police chase in Los Angeles.  With all chases, I feel a rush of excitement, but believe me when that car stops, I wish the cops would beat down the driver for putting the public's life in danger!  ... And if the driver is shot, well, "OH WELL!" But when it comes to getting tickets, if   a simple alert could prevent that, then I'm all for it!

Trapster is a FREE app which alerts you of speed traps, red light and speed cameras, police check points, and other wallet hazards. Available for your Blackberry, iPhone, Nokia, Android, Windows Mobile, Palm WebOS, Garmin, or TomTom device.

I AM WEST INDIAN (Caribbean) - US Census 2010

Ok, I saw this promotional video to increase awareness of the US Census in 2010 and considered posting it here. This AM, S7 loyal follower, Professor posted the video to Facebook. I responded.

"You knew what threw me off .. "I AM CARIBBEAN." Umm, what ever happened to, "I AM WEST INDIAN"? Sorry, but I had to wonder if they did not want to confuse Americans into thinking "BLACK" people could not be WEST "INDIAN" LOL! Anyway fill me in, is that new term "I AM CARIBBEAN?" 'Cause I surely won't be saying it!"

His response, "LOL, say it as you please. LOL. I wrote West Indian (SLU) on my form."

The US Census is not reserved for just American citizens but is for EVERYONE (documented or otherwise). EVERYONE should complete the 10 questions of the census and mail it in by April 1st, 2010. This will benefit your community, your schools, your hospitals etcetera so you can receive better funding from the Federal Governtments $400 Billion per year budget.

So you must know by now, I lived in Vermont for five years. ... And by now, you must know that Ben & Jerry's is a Vermont company. LOL! This picture was taken, 11 months ago with my daughter at the Ben & Jerry's Factory in Waterbury, Vermont.
This is a company that introduces classic flavors with clever new names initially to Vermont tasters, I used to be one! There are also competitions to name the new flavors. As an ex-Vermonter, I am still a DIE-HARD FAN! LOL! My favorite flavor is "Karamel Sutra." Hanna Herbertson (BlackGold) was born in South Korea, at the tender age of ten months she was adopted to Sweden. Hanna grew up on an island in the Baltic sea called Gotland, it was there she discovered her passion for dance. She has been teaching dance since 1998 and has brought her faiya to places like Kingston (Jamaica), Paris (France), Brussels (Belgium), Boston, San Jose, San Francisco, NJ & LI (USA) to mention a few. When she is not travelling she resides and teaches her weekly classes in New York City. Location: Ripley Grier Studios (520 8th Avenue between 36/37th Street on the 16th Floor).

Choreographer, dancer or teacher – whatever she does, on stage or in front of a class, she wants the audience/the students to feel her faiya (= fire in Patois/Jamaican). As a versitile choreographer/dancer she prefers not to be pigeonholed but her main styles are “Dancehall Fusion” (eclectic mix of Jamaican dancehall, different carribean dances, african, bellydancing and south american dances), hiphop and streetjazz. She is always open for new influences and interested in different cultures.

Beyonce "I AM" Tour in TRINIDAD

So I wake up real' early this AM, waiting to hear from my Trini friends and from other friends who stayed after carnival for the Beyonce "I AM" tour and opening performance by Trinidad's KING of Soca, Machel Montano. Of course, my friends, ain't wake up yet but Trinidad Carnival Diary's blog author, Saucy posted a review from another fellow blogger, Carnival Jumbie who attended, and her experience in VVIP, which costed a whopping TT1600 / US257 / GB167.

The hardcore review comes from Rachel Price, leaving me to say "OH ****!"

I took this picture while jumping on Carnival Monday!
Also I loved Rachel's review of Carnival Tuesday, a must listen too! Last year, I learnt never to wear bat wing eye-lashes again, cause a bit of rain fell and I went nearly blind. ... And this year, I opted to wear stockings, and boy did I have ladders. Anyway if my stockings were any indication of the fun time I had, then I have to say I had a real' good time on the road. Yet, I will remember Rachel's 2 stockings tip!
