If I die, who will teach my daughters?

CNN has become the station to watch when my other channels bore me. It's my insomniac channel, as I watch Nancy Grace, Joy Behar and Showbiz Tonight. Last weekend, I enjoyed this Father's Day Special documentary by Dr.Sanjay Gupta, If I die, who will teach my daughters?

"Editor's note: Imagine being a father and finding out you were going to die. Who would be there for your kids? Hear from one man who thought only of his daughters when he was faced with the news." - CNN.com

This touched my heart. 'Cause I was in the midst of writing about my recent Vermont trip. I can't stress enough, the need to go back to basics. I am reminded of the African proverb, "It takes a whole village to raise a child."

... And as I am writing and sharing this with you. I am reminded of this insane video, I saw this morning. At first I was like a mom dancing with her kids, I do that. But when more props kept popping up, I was like OH HELL NO.

One man's response after watching this was that parenting is non-existent today. .. And I had to respond. Just letting him know as a 33 year old mother, in my household, IT VERY MUCH STILL EXISTS.

The sad part we have people like this father and a young mom like me trying to raise decent and well rounded daughters.  While this mother is raising her sons to be lil' hoodlums.

VAJ News - Pelvic Exerciser

The Luxury Spot referenced The Sweet 7 on crystal adornment of the vajajay and introduced us to the term "VAJAZZLE," which then started the vajazzle chitter chatter. They're back, crediting themselves as the site, we can count on for all VAJ news. Where the hell have I been? There are Vajacials and Clitter. And WARNING there seems to be more.

They had great pleasure presenting this next VAJ product, which I proudly present to you, the Berman Center Juno Weighted Pelvic Exerciser $20.

"This fabulous lucite thingamabobber is like a hybrid between a dildo and dumbells: put it in, feel the burn (wait, that came out wrong). This will take your daily Kegels to a whole new, weighted level that will leave your pelvic muscles toned and tight.

In other words, if you love your boyfriend, don’t just hit the elliptical for a nice ass- hit the Berman for a strong vaj. No one likes a loosie goosie." - The Luxury Spot

The Bar Method

A friend on Facebook today, announced that she would be trying Pilates for the first time tonight! Her friend then responds, "the other secret, it`s called Bar Method. So worth it, you want to kill someone during the class, but 1 hour later you feel like a million dollar woman."

The Bar Method is an exercise program created by Burr Leonard.

The Bar Method is considered a full-body workout that utilizes a ballet barre technique. The Method draws from the principles of isometrics, dance conditioning, interval training, and physical therapy. Small weights, a mat, and other props are used in which students move through sets of exercises - sometimes in ballet postures - to strengthen and then stretch the muscles.

Class pace is fast to increase metabolism and burn fat. Workouts are approximately an hour long and begin with a warm-up, free weights and push-ups before graduating to the ballet bar for leg and seat work. Students finish class on floor mats working the abs and stretching. The series of strengthening and stretching moves are aimed at burning fat - especially in the stomach and hips areas. Using the body's own weight to increase motion and for resistance, stretching is focused on the hips, chest and lower back which additionally improves posture and body alignment. - Wiki

The Master Cleanse

Since November, I have been considering The Master Cleanse.  After watching an episode of the Tyra Banks Show "The Tapeworm Diet," I was so totally grossed out seeing those long pesky worms.  That show had the opposite effect, forget wanting to use tapeworms for dieting instead my goal suddenly was to rid my body , if I were to have any!

Childhood memories of summer cleansings ranged from ...

Zentel indicated in the treatment of single or mixed intestinal parasites

Tisanne de  Durbon Laxative  cleanses the body of toxins and promotes positive energy and wellness.  Formula: Each teaspoon (approx. 5ml) contains:Senna Leaf Powder - 913mgFrangula Bark powder - 217mgPurified Water, Ethyl Alcohol (95%) - 15% W/V, Marshmallow Root, Bitter Orange peel, Orthosiphon leaves, Burdock Root (Arctium Majus), Sorbic Acid, Methyl p-hydroxybenzoate, Anise Oil and Tincture of Capsicum Manufactured in Barbados by:Carlisle Laboratories, Ltd.under license forLaurentian LaboratoriesA division of Stella Pharmaceutical Canada, Inc.Ontario, Canada

Castor Oil - a strong laxative, with its major site of action the small intestine.

Carrot Water / Juice contain certain oils that work on the mucus membranes of the stomach and colon. This helps with digestion and starts your bowels functioning properly. Carrots are high in fiber and beta-carotene, an antioxidant, which the body converts to vitamin A. Carrots can make your stools softer and larger.

So those were the end of my summer days .... And since that was over twenty plus years ago, in addition to a change from a Caribbean to a North American food diet, and don't forget, to numerous cups/glasses/shots of liquor later ... I am desperate for a cleanse.

In 2006, who could forget Beyonce's 20 pound weight loss from The Master Cleanse Diet as she prepared for her role in the movie,  DreamGirls?  So although I would love to cleanse, with less than 36 days away from Trinidad Carnival 2K10 ... I welcome some weight loss too!

So in my research I immediately found one woman's 10 day journal,  The Master Cleanse: 10 Days to a Helathier, Leaner Detoxified Body: Journal # 1 . It was so intriguing that I felt that I am ready to do this cleanse!

And what seems to be The Bible on the subject is this book (seen left), The Master Cleanse by Stanley Burroughs

So today, when my girl Brooke Bailey stated on Facebook, "Day 9 of my Master cleanse.  I feel great, especially after my workout today!!! Mind over Matter!!!"  Again, I was triggered and asked "how was it really?" ... she admitted, "It's really hard. But, it's so worth it!!"

Master Cleanse ... here I come!

(just saw this on Yahoo.com and The Master Cleanse is not one!)

Prevent (Swine Flu) H1N1 - Good Advice!

Prevent (Swine Flu) H1N1 - Good Advice:

Dr. Vinay Goyal is an MBBS,DRM,DNB (Intensivist and Thyroid specialist) having clinical experience of over 20 years. He has worked in institutions like Hinduja Hospital, Bombay Hospital ,Saifee Hospital, Tata Memorial etc. Presently, he is heading the Nuclear Medicine Department and Thyroid clinic at Riddhivinayak Cardiac and Critical Centre, Malad (W).

The following message given by him makes a lot of sense and is important for all to know

The only flu portals of entry are the nostrils and mouth/throat. In a global epidemic of this nature, it's almost impossible to avoid coming into contact with H1N1, in spite of all precautions. Contact with H1N1 is not so much of a problem as proliferation is.

While you are still healthy and not showing any symptoms of H1N1 infection, in order to prevent proliferation, aggravation of symptoms, and development of secondary infections, some very simple steps, not fully highlighted in most official communications, can be practiced (instead of focusing on how to stock N95 or Tamiflu):

1. Frequent hand-washing (well highlighted in all official communications).

2. "Hands-off-the-face" approach: Resist all temptations to touch any part of face (unless you want to eat, bathe or slap).

3. Gargle twice a day with warm salt water (use Listerine if you don't trust salt). H1N1 takes 2-3 days after initial infection in the throat/ nasal cavity to proliferate and show characteristic symptoms. Simple gargling prevents proliferation. In a way, gargling with salt water has the same effect on a healthy individual that Tamiflu has on an infected one. Don't underestimate this simple, inexpensive, and powerful preventative method.

4. Similar to 3 above, clean your nostrils at least once every day with warm salt water.

5. Boost your natural immunity with foods that are rich in Vitamin C ( and other citrus fruits). If you have to supplement with Vitamin C tablets, make sure that it also has Zinc to boost absorption.

6. Drink as much of warm liquids (tea, coffee, etc) as you can. Drinking warm liquids has the same effect as gargling, but in the reverse direction. They wash off proliferating viruses from the throat into the stomach where they cannot survive, proliferate, or do any harm.

I suggest you pass this on to your entire e-list. You never know who might pay attention to it - and STAY ALIVE because of it.

Re cleaning nostrils with warm salt water:

The "Nasaline Rinsing System" is simply a large syringe that gently (depending on how hard you depress it) forces a stream of saline solution through the nostril. I'm told that it's not uncomfortable and the results have been impressive! It can be purchased at drug stores and some health food shops.

Birth Control - MIRENA

Ahh, baby talk! LOL! Where do I begin?

My daughter turns 3, in two weeks.  My parents are nagging me about "it's time to bring the boy!" Little do they know, I too am contemplating to get the ball rolling again. .. And with all the recent stork visits to lots of my friends and celebs in recent months, the baby bug is biting me!

I am finally preparing to disrupt my 9 month ahead, pregnancy-free calendar schedule, which includes not missing Trinidad, St.Lucia, even Toronto Carnival. It also means I'm mentally prepared not to have a "HARD" drink, even a lil' smoke!

Major step, I have an appointment with my gyno, especially since Mirena can be removed as soon as you want to try to have another baby which leads me to this post.  I wanted to tell you about Mirena 3 years ago, when I started this blog and spent a few months on Mirena. Instead my very first Sweet 7 post on February 18 2007, exactly 5 months after giving birth to my daughter was about an iPod vibrator, "Oh Mi Bod!"

... And since I'm walking down memory lane that also reminds me, I may have started the Sweet 7 that very February day since I did not go to Trinidad Carnival that year! Haha, oh yes (I just checked!) ... my first post was a Sunday, THE DAY BEFORE CARNIVAL MONDAY that year! LOL!

Back to this post ...

After discussing birth control options with my midwife, six weeks after I gave birth to my daughter, we opted to go with MIRENA. A birth control with no hassles! A safe and effective birth control that I did not have to think about taking every day, every week or even every year? I did not have to pop pills daily! Mirena is a perfect birth control 'cause it lasts as long as you want, for up to 5 years.

My history with birth control included a hatred for pill poppin'! Even when I tried taking birth control pills daily for 3 months, I got terrible head aches. ... And then vivid images of friends with the patch or others who just ballooned due to their birth control pills, freaked me. Yet, after popping out my lil' one, I knew I needed a reliable birth control ... I was not ready to commit to 9 months and the pain any time soon. LOL!

Mirena (levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system) is an intrauterine contraceptive that delivers small amounts of hormone directly to the uterus. Made of soft, flexible plastic, it is put in place by your healthcare provider during an office visit. The procedure lasted about 10 minutes, maybe less. During the next 3 months my period was non-existent but thereafter, it was back to normal.

And 'though, I'm not a fan of doctors, drug companies and the likes .... I felt the need to share my love for the birth control MIRENA. Please do your own research and please ask your doctor if it's right for you!
Wouldn't you love a more "rounded" Sweet 7 or Sweet 7 "times 2"? LOL!

How Beyoncé got into the best shape of her life!

“She is performing the best shows of her life and her body looks amazing,” her trainer and author of Power Moves, Marco Borges, tells In Touch.

“She feels really good about herself, and she’s got a ton of energy.” Borges reveals the secret to achieving Beyoncé’s incredible physique is training with health in mind, as opposed to looks. “If you think about being as healthy as you possibly can, there is no way you’re not going to look like a million bucks. And that’s what Beyoncé did,” he tells In Touch.

Their goal was to make sure she could run around for two hours onstage without feeling winded every night. So before the tour, Beyoncé, 28, did interval training — 45 minutes of alternating between sprinting and running on the treadmill, followed by body-resistance work.

Now, Beyoncé does yoga and Pilates for an hour on show days and body-resistance exercises on days when she’s not performing.

Borges also tells In Touch that the star eats a sensible 1,600-calorie diet of lean proteins with healthy carbs. “The truth is, it’s a lot of sacrifice. You have to push yourself,” Beyoncé has said.

Difference between a Snack & a Treat

"The difference between a Snack & a Treat is that the former has nutrients and fills you up, while the latter simply curves a craving." - Fitness Magazine

So the snack is healthy and the treat is purely indulgent.

So mix apples and oreos. LOL!

Inexpensive Ways to Get Bikini Body Ready!

It's time to get swimsuit ready, Carnivals & Summer are fast approaching!  ... And bodies like this inspire me.

The 4 problems that concern us most are the abs, butt, arms & shoulders and hips & legs. Not to worry, though. Each of these zones can be improved upon with careful attention to diet and regular exercise.

Here are some cardio exercises to enhance those spots "not yet fit for the beach:"
Abs - Flatten the abs with aerobic dance exercises that include bending and twisting.
Arms & Shoulders - Work arms and shoulders by using a dual-action elliptical trainer, the kind where you move both arms and legs.
Hips & Legs - Whittle down your hips and legs by taking spin classes.
Butt - Choose cardio exercises such as running or walking – or use a stair climbing machine.

My favorite overall body workout is Pilates. It will strengthen and lengthen the entire body, with a focus on abdominal strength.

KARMA is a B....! - Cop in Moats case quits

Last week, I posted MUST SEE Unedited Video: Traffic Stop of Ryan Moats. After watching the video, I was extremely pissed with the cop and the entire situation.  I asked Sweet 7 readers to comment about their feelings after watching the video. ...And thanks to those who did comment. I do remember my last comment though ...

What pisses me off ... how inconsiderate and heartless can you be?

ONE WORD: KARMA!

KARMA is a BITCH!

On Monday, NFL player Ryan Moats an his wife, Tamishia talk to 'Good Morning America.' Ryan Moats and his wife said they were willing to accept the apology of the Dallas police officer as they rushed to her dying mother's bedside.

Today, the police officer, Robert Powell who pulled out his gun and threatened the NFL player with jail instead of allowing him inside a hospital where his mother-in-law was dying resigned Wednesday. Read more: Cop who stopped NFL player in hospital lot resigns.

... And I hate to gloat, but KARMA baby!

NOT TO BE FORGOTTEN ...
In this tragedy, Tamishia Moats' mother died from Breast Cancer.  Tamishia also reminds women to regularly examine their breasts since early detection is pertinent!  Breast Cancer Early Detection Plan

A lil' advice I have learnt from my mom:
Every birthday my mom's present to herself is to visit her doctor for a series of feminine checkups - pap smears, breast exams and general health care.  I recommend an AIDS test should be added to that health check up list.

Olay For You - Love The Skin You're In

I spent last weekend with friends in Toronto.  When we sobered up we started to talk about our needs for spa treatments (facials, massages, waxing and pedicures).  The most complaints were about our faces, problems consisted of pimples, scars, facial hairs, dullness, etc. That conversation sparked my memory about a post that I started in December that never made it to The Sweet 7.  So here goes ...

I don't consistently remove my makeup so my facial products must provide me with a scrub.  I like to get into those pores! LOL! So I loved Proactiv before I was pregnant and still do. ... And I recommend it to any one who suffers with really bad acne. It's just that when I was pregnant, I wanted a product that felt less harsh.  So I opted for the very affordable "baking soda."

Although in December, while in Miami with my parents before returning to St.Lucia for christmas, I looked at my over 50 year old mother's skin while I was layering my skin with makeup to hide my flaws.  I rather a scar to a bump on my face any day!  I can hide a scar with makeup!  My mother wears no make up and her skin is radiant.  So when her shopping list consisted of buying Olay Regenerist, I figured I better jump on her band wagon but she warned that Olay Regenerist was for older skin and kept it from aging.  She then advised me to visit Olay For You because everyone's needs and skin are different.

"Olay For You" wants to learn all about you and your skin and then talks you through your recommendations, tailored just for you.

So in December, I generally wore no makeup ... remarkably not even in the day, like I usually do. ... And when I did I only applied loose powder (I can't wait to post about my powder.) The Olay products tailored for me by "Olay For You" gave me exactly what I wanted glowing skin:

... And since I needed all the help I could get, I purchased their at-home Micro Dermabrasion Kit. Fantastic!  It does not burn or sting, very gentle yet effective!  ... And for the cost of getting a spa treatment, this $30 was so worth it!

The picture above was taken in December when I was using Olay.  ... And although I was on holiday in St.Lucia, I'd hate to believe that I was glowing because of the sunshine.  Then again, I may have been glowing 'cause it was Happy Hour!  LOL!
Absolutely NO MAKEUP!

Here are some YouTube - Olay Review videos

Understanding Your Hair Type

A numerical system of hair typing was established to simplify types of hair and to provide more exact definition for the hair type. The following numbers refer to the amount of curl or wave in a hair. Type 1 hair is always straight. The number 2 indicates a slight wave to a frizzy wave. The number 3 begins the plunge into curly hair and the number 4 indicates extremely kinky hair.

However, just defining the amount of curl or kink in one's hair isn't enough to provide an exact hair typing. Hence, the letters a, b, and c are used to define the actual thickness of the strand. A types are thinner than b types, who are still less thick and coarse than type c hair.

Commonalities between the 4A, 4B & 3C Hair Types
The 4a, 4b & 3c hair types generally indicates some sort of African/Black people's hair, meaning that the hair is coarse and tends towards frizziness. The 3Cs absorb more water than the type 4, which means the hair will grow longer and somewhat stronger. Unfortunately, type 4 hair contains less cuticle layers than the other hair numbers, meaning it is difficult to grow long. Type 4 hair is delicate and can break easily, and because of its kinky quality it should never be brushed.

Breakage will be a major issue for the 4a, 4b & 3c hair type. Implementing wide tooth combs is one of the best methods for breakage control. Extra conditioning with specialized anti-frizz hair products for blacks is key to maintaining any sort of shine. Because all three hair types are relatively kinky and coarse, shine is difficult to produce. Using palm nut oil is a chief ingredient in the Tawira tribe’s recipe for black hair that is a good first step in hair maintenance.

One styling difference between the 4a, 4b & 3c hair type is that the 3c tends to have far more springy hair than the 4s. Hence, straightening this thick curly type can be a bit of an issue. However, type 4s are apparently very versatile where styling issues are concerned. It won't take much for 4s to puff, straighten, braid, or afro their hair. Type 3 retains more shine, so if you can manage a straight style with the aid of smoothing serum and a quality ceramic hair straightener, your style will possess greater shine than your average type 4s.
