Darren Sammy - St.Lucian Cricketer

The 2008 Stanford 20/20 Super Series is a series of Twenty20 cricket matches sponsored by Texan billionaire Sir Allen Stanford.

The tournament was played between 25 October-1 November comprising of 5 warmup matches and a $US 20 million for the grand finale. All 2008 Super Series matches took place at the Stanford Cricket Ground in Antigua.  The final match of the Series was played between the English national cricket team and an all-star team from the Caribbean, called the Stanford Superstars.

The Caribbean team,
Stanford Superstars won US$20 million jackpot.   Each player on the Caribbean team walks away with US$1 million.  A capacity crowd had already packed into the ground long before the scheduled 5:30 p.m. start and the excitement was starting to mount ahead of the first ball.

It was bowled by a 24 year old Darren Sammy, a St.Lucian cricketer, in what was viewed as a bit of a surprise move.  Sammy sent down only one over in his first spell but when the captain brought him back, he came up trumps.  The all-rounder claimed two wickets, one of which was danger man Kevin Pietersen and also held a nice catch at long-on. Darren Sammy finished with two for 13 from four excellent overs of fast-medium bowling and was the choice for the Man-of-the-match award.
