Lisa Tison - LeaseABook.com

"Look at all these rumors surroundin' me every day, I just need some time, some time to get away from,"

This song was playing on the radio while I was driving on the Florida turnpike, one day in 2001. First off, I had not heard it in years ... reminding me of my childhood friend who left at the age of fourteen and moved to Boston, Massachusetts.

The song was "Rumors" by the Timex Social Club and the friend was Lisa Biscette, now Tison. Lisa and I would sing and dance to this 1986 hit, back when we were in the all girls' catholic school, Ave Maria Infant & Primary School in St.Lucia. Such good ole' memories; innocence and simpler times, although even at that age we were crazy!

Hearing that song, only left me wondering, "Where in the world could she be?" Two days later, believe it or not, I got an email from a Lisa Tison. The last name was not familiar but I was excited at the thought, "Could it be her?" Thinking if so, "the God's must be working over time." I did not hestitate to open the email. It was her!

... And our reunion was sooner than I could have ever imagined, because she was coming to Miami for a cruise. That day we met again, we just picked up from where we left off. This time, introducing each other to the men in our lives. Her side of the story, was that she was inspired to find me after dreaming of me. Then she began her online search for me. So strange, cause now a days, my personal email information is alot more private. ... And I since have had a last name change.

Since that random meeting years ago, Lisa and I keep in touch and I consider her, one of my closest friends. We only live a three and a half hour drive away. I just returned from seeing her for St.Patrick's Day. The pictures are from past visits, to see each other.

Lisa Tison has an undergraduate degree in Psychology from the University of Massachusetts. She was working on her graduate degree in Management at Emmanuel College, when in 2006, she got laid off as the Director of Administration, from a well-known property management company.

It was then, Lisa's business concept came to mind, especially since she was paying top dollar for graduate text books. Lisa Tison decided to take a chance and start her home based business, LeaseABook.com.

It's a service that allows students in Massachusetts to register using their email address, saving up to 70% on textbooks, by simply leasing them. The process is fast and simple and most importantly, saves students money! Students also have the option to purchase their current rental or books from LeaseABook.com inventory.

Lisa wanted her business' name to explain the service she offered. She and a friend kept thinking of "Rent" until the word "Lease" which also sounds like "Lisa", popped into their heads. Suddenly, LeaseABook.com was born but Lisa still needed a web designer. Thankfully, finding Sophia Cotton of Simple Site Solutions, who brought her vision to light and designed her logo too.

Lisa buys books that are in good condition from students who are selling them. She pays students more than what the college's bookstore would pay for those same used books.

Her father is the source of most of her inspiration. She remembers her early arrival into US school, the culture shock and having to assimilate but thankful that her father admitted her into a small private school. Her American classmates were clueless about her home country, St.Lucia and teased her about her accent. Her father taught her to believe in God and that having the right attitude is the way to survive. She also attributes her success to positive role models & things in her life and her surrogate family (her friends).

"When you put your mind to something, you can do it! My color, gender, culture and nationality has not stopped me from accomplishing my goals."

Concurrently, Lisa works part time in a hospital. She is completing her dissertation which includes a hot body male who owns a Capoeira (brazilian martial arts) business. That's my girl! LOL!

FYI: Rumors hit the airwaves in April of 1986 and was first shunned by Urban Radio due to it's brash sound and the fact that it was on an independent black owned record labled: Jay Records . Since the group hailed from the Oakland/San Francisco Bay area, they promoted it highly in their hometown and hoped that the local Urban stations would play their hit, none did.
By May of 1986, a young program director named Terry Avery of KKDA 104FM in Dallas Fort Worth heard RUMORS and added it to the stations playlist and it caught fire! Other Urban Radio stations across the country took notice and followed suit by adding RUMORS as well.

Rumors then entered the Billboard HOT BLACK/R&B Singles Charts, and on July 13th of 1986 reached the number #1 spot and held there for 2 weeks. Rumors also hit Billborard's Top 40/POP charts and broke the to 10, by reaching the #8 spot.

Lyrics: Rumors by Timex Social Club
How do rumors get started, they're started by the jealous people and
They get mad seein' somethin' they had and sombody else is holdin'
They tell me that temptation is very hard to resist
These wicked women, ooh, they just persist
Maybe you think it's cute, but girl, I'm not impressed
I tell you one time only with my business please don't mess

Look at all these rumors surroundin' me every day
I just need some time, some time to get away from
From all these rumors, I can't take it no more
My best friend said there's one out now about me and the girl next door

Hear the one about Tina, some say she's much too loose
That came straight from a guy who claims he's tastin' her juice
Hear the one about Michael, some say he must be gay
I try to argue, but they said if he was straight he wouldn't move that way
Hear the one about Susan, some say she's just a tease
In a camisole she's six feet tall, she'll knock you to your knees

Look at all these rumors surroundin' me every day
I just need some time, some time to get away from
From all these rumors, I can't take it no more
My best friend said there's one out now about me and the girl next door

I can't go no place without somebody pointin' a finger
I can't show my face รข€˜cause when it comes to rumors I'm a dead ringer
It seems from rumors I just can't get away
I bet there'll even be rumors floatin' around on Judgment Day
I'll think I'll write my congressman and tell him to pass a bill
For the next time they catch somebody startin' rumors, shoot to kill

Look at all these rumors surroundin' me every day
I just need some time, some time to get away from
From all these rumors, I can't take it no more
My best friend said there's one out now about me and the girl next door

What's mine is mine, I ain't got time for rumors in my life
I'm a man who thinks, not a man who drinks, so please let me live my life
What's mine is mine, I ain't got time for rumors in my life
I'm a man who thinks, not a man who drinks, so please let me live my life
What's mine is mine, I ain't got time for rumors in my life
I'm a man who thinks, not a man who drinks, so please let me live my life

Look at all these rumors surroundin' me every day
I just need some time, some time to get away from
From all these rumors, I can't take it no more
My best friend said there's one out now about me and the girl next door

Look at all these rumors surroundin' me every day
I just need some time, some time to get away from
From all these rumors, I can't take it no more
My best friend said there's one out now about me and the girl next door

Stop (Stop) spreadin' those rumors around
Stop (Stop) spreadin' the lies
Stop (Stop) spreadin' those rumors around
Stop (Stop) spreadin' the lies

Stop (Stop) spreadin' those rumors around
Stop (Stop) spreadin' the lies
Stop (Stop) spreadin' those rumors around
Stop (Stop) spreadin' the lies

Stop (Stop) spreadin' those rumors around
Stop (Stop) spreadin' the lies
