  1. AHEM AHEM, SO I WAIT WITH BAITED BREATH FOR THIS PORTRAYAL. AFRICA HAS BE DONE EXTENSIVELY SINCE THE INCEPTION OF CARNIVAL SO APART FROM BEING A THEME THAT YOU HAVE TO REPRESENT WITH DUE RESPECT YOU'RE ALSO TASKED WITH NOT GIVEN TH PUBLIC SOMETHING THAT LEAVES THEM GOING "OH I'VE SEEN THIS BEFORE". YOU HAVE TO REMAIN TRUE TO THE RICH CULTURE THAT IS AFRICA BUT AT THE SAME TIME GIVE IT THAT FRESH TWIST TO OVERCOME THAT "EXHAUSTED PORTRAYAL SYNDROME". LUCIAN SPIRITS DOES GOOD WORK THOUGH SO I'M SURE THEIR PORTRAYAL WILL DO THE THEME JUSTICE. THEY'RE ONE OF THE BANDS THAT'S ON THE CUSP OF TRADITIONAL AND PRETTY MAS, AND LIKE I POINTED OUT LAST YEAR WE NEED THESE OPTIONS IN MAS. CAUSE WHILE I LOVE THE PRETTY MAS IF THE WHOLE OF CARNIVAL GOES THAT ROUTE THEN THE ART-FORM AND CARNIVAL AS A CULTURE IN GENERAL IS LOST, SO KUDOS TO BANDS LIKE SPIRITS. I ALSO HAD A COMPLAINT WITH THEIR PORTRAYAL LAST YEAR AS WELL THOUGH, I REMEMBER IT BEING AN AZTEC/MAYAN TYPE THEME AND I WAS DISAPPOINTED THAT THE DESIGNS WEREN'T AS ELABORATE AS THEY SHOULD HAVE BEEN AND THEREBY DIDN'T DO THE PORTRAYAL AS MUCH JUSTICE AS IT DESERVED. SO I'M HOPING THIS YEAR ALL THE INTRICACIES OF THIS AFRICAN PORTRAYAL ARE HONORED. WE ALL KNOW AFRICA TO BE A RICH AND VIBRANT CONTINENT SO HIT US WITH YOUR BEST SHOT LUCIAN SPIRITS. LOOKING FORWARD TO IT.

  2. I think we did the theme great justice by attaining, First Runner up Band of the year
First Runner up Queen of the bands
First Place Female individual of the year

and by doing alot better that the other bands, by spectators actually being able to identify first and for most what we were doing.

I mean not to call names but, purple and black tiny pieces of cloth to represent which greek god again? Don't get me wrong the costumes were lovely, but when it comes to theme representation i think we did Great!
