Stakeholders Review St.Lucia Carnival 2010

Nearly three months after the streets erupted in a flurry of colourful costumes and Soca music for carnival celebrations, stakeholders in the event were called to carnival review meeting on Monday, September 27.

The meeting was held at Auberge Seraphine and many major stakeholders who were expected to make presentations did not seem to know why they were there in the first place.Though the CDF director and others said the ministry of education and culture sent them invitations last Thursday, the meeting seemed impromptu.

“I think if you ask St Lucians what carnival was like they’d tell you it was very good this year. I think we need to concern ourselves with the question, very good in what sense?” minister Gaspard Charlemagne questioned in his opening remarks. Education and Culture ministers Arsene James and Gaspard Charlemagne sat at the headtable, and Charlemagne said the meeting had been called to put together the basic requirements needed for an upcoming symposium on carnival to be held in October.

“I want us to have a very frank discussion on how to make carnival more successful in 2010 and other issues] but I do not want us to lose our cool,” Charlemagne said. “I do not want it to look like pointing fingers at any particular group.” CONTINUE READING ...
