ST.LUCIA CARNIVAL 2009: Rituals Band Launch

Rituals Carnival 2009 presents MARDI GRAS The Magic of the Masque launched yesterday evening. It's one of the few launches that I attend due to the open air venue. Since the Rituals launch signals the start of weekly after work limes until carnival for the band, this first event is never over-crowded. Also a Rituals launch always consists of their models dancing to current St.Lucian soca music.  So listen to the latest 2009 soca releases heard at the launch.

Rituals is definitely the band which offers the best bar service during St.Lucian Carnival. Unlike other bands, including mine, Rituals revelers boast, stress and remind us all that "Alcohol Cah Done!" In the past, Rituals costumes were a bit too covered for me, just a lil' too much cloth. This year though I saw at least 2 sections that I like. Certainly, one was that pink and black section. It was also refreshing to see masks (masks are currently popping up in Fashion), consistently used to portray their 2009 theme.

Shout out to the young man who modeled the RIO (green) section. He rocked his section! LOL!

  1. HMMM INTERESTING, NOT BAD ACTUALLY. IT'S WHAT WE'VE COME TO EXPECT FROM RITUALS BUT A LIL YOUNGER. IN THEIR INAUGURAL YEAR THEY DEFINITELY ONLY CATERED TO THE MORE CONSERVATIVE REVELER IN MY OPINION BUT SINCE LAST YEAR I NOTICED A SHIFT TOWARD TRYING TO ATTRACT A YOUNGER REVELER & I'M SEEING THIS MORE THIS YEAR AS WELL. IT'S STILL CONSERVATIVE TO A DEGREE BUT NOT AS COVERED UP AS IN PAST YEARS WHICH'S REALLY COOL, I COULD ACTUALLY SEE MYSELF PLAYING WITH THEM. THE COSTUMES ACTUALLY LOOK LIKE WHAT THEY'RE SUPPOSED TO PORTRAY & THAT'S ALWAYS A PLUS. NEW ORLEANS PERHAPS 1 WOULD EXPECT IT TO BE IN TRADITIONAL NEW ORLEANS MARDI GRAS COLORS OF PURPLE, GREE & GOLD BUT I RATHER LIKE THIS BLUE & GOLD & IT'D BE A CHOICE FOR ME IF I COULD GET IT IN SHORTS AS OPPOSED TO LONG PANTS LOL I CAN'T DO LONG PANTS FOR CARNIVAL LOL. ANOTHER FAVORITE OF MINE IS THE GREEN, I COULD SEE ME PLAYING IN THAT SECTION AS WELL CEPT I'D SNIP OFF THE BEADS HANGING FROM THE MASK ON THE FACE. BAD ENOUGH THAT I WOULDN'T WANNA KEEP THE MASK IN MY FACE TO HAVE TO CONTEND WITH ALL THOSE BEADS HITTING ME IN THE FACE, TOO MUCH LOL. THEIR BACK & GOLD SECTION IS REMINISCENT OF SOMETHING OUT OF TRINI REVELLERS THIS YEAR & IS MY LEAST FAV OF ALL THE SECTIONS. THE PINK & BLACK LADIES, BLUE & GREEN ARE ALL PRETTY COOL AS WELL.
SO ALL IN ALL, NOT THE SKIMPY MAS THAT'S OH SO POPULAR NOW BUT AS I'VE ADVOCATED BEFORE, THERE IS A NEED FOR PORTRAYALS THAT BANDS LIKE RITUALS PROVIDE & I THINK IT'S EVIDENT BY THEIR NUMBERS. I THINK THIS PORTRAYAL, WHILE A LIL COSKELLE IS ACTUALLY A VERY COOL 1.

  3. LOL WHY THANK YOU. WHICH SECTION COULD YOU SEE YOURSELF IN THOUGH.
BTW I MEANT TO COMMENT BEFORE THAT THE NEW ORLEANS COSTUME, INCLUDING THE COLOR SCHEME LOOKS A LIL MORE EGYPTIAN THAN NEW ORLEANS MARDI GRAS BUT I STILL DO THINK THAT ALL THE COLOR SCHEMES & DESIGNS WORK WELL AT REPRESENTING THEIR INDIVIDUAL SECTIONS.
